Frequently Asked Questions
 
Q. How long is the baseball season?  A.  T-Ball practice begins on April 8th and ends May 30th. The Rookies, Minors, Majors and Preps season will begin on March 13th and will end with a final tournament finished before Memorial Day Weekend. The Softball season begins on March 13th and will end by May 31st.  
 
Q. When are games? When are practices?  A. Games are played Monday-Saturday, depending on your child's age, they may have between 1 and 3 games per week. Practice dates and times will be determined by your coach. Practices can begin on March 13th for all divisions except for TBall. Tball practice can begin on April 9th.  
 
Q. Where are games? Where are practices?  A. T-Ball through Majors will play most games at Stampede Park/Snake River Elementary. Preps will play at Lone Star Middle School and will be traveling to away games and Softball will play at Midway Park. Practice fields are extremely limited in Nampa, this will be dependent on what your coach can find available.  
 
Q. How long are the games?  A. All game items vary. time limits and game rules for all age division can be located in the divisions tab on the league website.  
 
Q. When is Jamboree? What is Jamboree?  A. Baseball Jamboree is Saturday April 27th , Jamboree is a fun filled day for the entire family. The day will include games, silent auction, Les Schwab Pitching trailer, concessions, etc.  Softball Jamboree is late in April and is TBD (based off of game schedules)
 
Q. Does my child have to tryout?  A. Rookies, Minors, Majors and Preps have tryouts/assessments. All players are expected to tryout; however, every player will be assigned to a team regardless of whether they are present at tryouts or not.  
 
Q. When will I know what team my child is on?  A. Teams are selected by a draft process. When the draft selection process is complete, Coaches will be calling their team members and letting them know practice dates, times, etc. You should hear from your coach by March 10th. If you haven't received a phone call or email by then, please contact your division director.  
 
Q. What uniform will my child need?  A. Every player will receive a team shirt and hat. Players are responsible for baseball/softball pants, socks, belt and shoes. Cleats are preferred.  
 
Q. What equipment will my child need?  A. A baseball glove is the only required equipment. If players have their own equipment, ie. bats, catchers gear, etc. they are encouraged to bring those. Teams will have practice balls, extra bats, batting helmets and one set of catcher’s gear. 
 
Q. Can I volunteer? If so, how do I volunteer and what can I do? A. Volunteers are definitely needed in the form of Coaches, Assistant Coaches, Umpires, Team Moms, Concessions, Scorekeepers, Field Maintenance Volunteers, etc.  Please contact a board member if you are interested. 
 
Q. Will my child's game have an umpire?  A. Umpires are supplied for all Minor, Majors and Preps divisions. All other age divisions will have a parent or volunteer umpire. Please be patient and respectful of all umpires.  
 
Q. Do I have to live in Nampa for my child to play for Nampa Babe Ruth?  A. Softball players must reside within Canyon County.  In order for a baseball player to participate in NBR they must reside in or have a child attending a school within the Nampa School District Boundaries. If you lived in Nampa and began you NBR career here and moved away you may continue to play here until you reach the age of 12. Ex: you live in Nampa and your son began NBR at the age of 8yrs old in the Rookie Division and you move to Caldwell 2 years later. YOU would still be allowed to complete your Cal Ripken career in our league until he becomes the age of 13 and begins Preps which is the Babe Ruth division, at this time you would have to play in the respective league that you reside in.  
 
Q. Are there any qualifications for coaching?  A. for the 2019 season we require all coaches to go through a background process and to be certified through www.baberuthcoaching.org
